The Great Divide

The Great Divide

Fears of immigrants and the homeless distract us from the divide that really matters: the one that’s still getting wider.

There’s a wall that they tore down in Europe,
That they built just to keep people in.
Now down on the Mexican border,
They’re building that wall up again.

There’s a wall going up in the suburbs,
So the rich folks can live there in peace.
But the sheriff is sure to arrest you,
If you try to sleep on the street.

CHORUS
There’s a great divide in this country.
Every day gets a little more wide.
And we’re all gonna pay,
Till we find us a way
Of crossing that great divide,
Of crossing that great divide.

Now, the boss, he is making a million,
But he still wants a raise in his pay,
So a couple of hundred employees
Are getting their pink slips today.

CHORUS

There will always be winners and losers.
Those are simply the rules of the game.
And the winners are making the money,
While the losers are taking the blame.

Now the workers are mad at the poor folks,
While the rich folks stand off to the side.
They say that if you want to conquer,
The first thing you do is divide.

CHORUS
