Are You Better Off Now?
An update on Ronald Reagan’s classic quote from the election of 1980.
When you’re reading the papers
And watching the news,
Do you think that you’re getting
A little confused
By the pros and the cons
Of your foes and your friends,
Who your vote’ll be for.
Who you’re voting against.
If it seems an impossible task,
Here’s a question perhaps you should ask:
CHORUS
Are you better off now
Than four years ago?
Are you better off now?
Is is Yes? Is it No?
Did you bet on a horse?
Did you bet on the Dow?
After four years of George,
Are you better off now?
Are they paying the wages
That they used to pay?
Is your job getting done
By someone in Bombay?
Did the cut in your taxes
Put cash in the bank?
Was it all eaten up
By the gas in your tank?
If the answer ain’t easy to find,
Perhaps a question will settle your mind:
CHORUS
Is your life getting better or worse?
Are you moving forward, or stuck in reverse?
When it’s hard just to get out of bed,
Remember what Ronald Reagan once said:
CHORUS
Do you feel like a horse,
Being chained to a plow?
After four years of George,
Are you better off now?
Are you better off now?
Are you better off now?
