Added Years to My Life

Added Years to My Life

Well, I thought that I wanted to cash in my chips,
The day that you sent me that letter.
But my friends said, “Dear John, just give up your bad habits,
And you’ll get to feeling better.
Better.
So I gave up drinking. I gave smoking.
I’m a healthier man, it’s true.
I feel like I’ve added years to my life,
To spend crying over you.

Well, I went to the poolroom, to have me a cool one
And pick up some pocket change.
But buckets of tears in a glass of near-beer,
You know, it just isn’t the same.
Since I quit doing bourbon, my head stopped hurting
And my body feels like new.
Yeah, I feel like I’ve added years to my life,
To spend crying over you.

Since I gave up my vices, I’m in a crisis.
I sit in the health club and cry.
I quit smoking and toking, so I won’t be croaking.
Now all I wanna do is lay down and die.

The bathroom mirror says I’m five years younger.
My old clothes are starting to fit.
My friends all tell me I look like a million.
The truth is, I feel like…
Now I’m straight and I’m sober.
I’m starting life over.
Got so much to look forward to.
Yeah, I feel like I’ve added years to my life,
To spend crying over you.
I feel like I’ve added years to my life,
To spend crying over you.
